At the beginning of today's class, we review the chapter that was our homework for last week (pg27 in the textbook: 这是我的铅笔）.The teacher randomly chose a person to read two lines and then just like a train; a new person read the next two lines. After everyone read the lines, teachers want all the people to get more practice. * Remember to read the five chapters that we learned before during the week
Today we also learned some new pinyin. We learned four new vowels 声母: p (pō shuǐ jié 泼水节; a festival to splash water), q (qì qiú 气球；balloon), zh (zhǐ 纸; paper), w (wū yún 乌云: dark clouds)
The new final consonants that we learned today: u (bù 布; fabric), ü (yú 鱼; fish). The teacher made a game that she read a pinyin and students should follow her, but sometimes the teacher will try to trick the students. Also, the students make more pinyin card ( remember to bring all the pinyin card that we made in the previous class to every class)
We played a game called whistle game that helps students to get more understand about the pinyin we learned.
* Four persons per group. The teacher gave a word to the first person in each of the group. And then they whistle that word to the next person; the last person will need to write down the pinyin of the word on the paper.
After the game, we read page 29 in the textbook to practice say the pinyin.
At the end of the class, we reviewed the 上学歌 We add some dialogue at the end of the song.

Welcome Back! This week the teacher and the students reviewed everything after the long break to make sure the students are familiar with the things that they've earned so far. We went over the words we've learned so far with a fun game of bingo. Teacher put words up on the board and it was the student's job to fill in their bingo sheet with the words. they the teacher mixed up the words and called them out for students to cross out and when they got 4 in a row, it would be a BINGO!
After we played bingo, we reviewed the PinYin we have learned so far. The PinYin that we've learned so far are located in the text book and we learn them corresponding to the chapters of the boo we lave learned. please review at home those chapters and their Pin Yin.
Then we learned the next chapter of the book. We read them out loud in the class together and the teacher we around asking each student to read it out loud. Please review at home this chapter and don't forget to finish the Homework. The homework was written on the sheet that the teacher passed out during class.
Near the end of class, we practiced the song and dance that we were taught before break. We, as a class, are going to perform this song at the Chinese New Year show that the New Star Chinese School holds every year. So practice this song and dance at home! See you next week!

Welcome back to school! Hope you all had a
great Thanksgiving holiday break! Today, we reviewed Chinese characters, pinyin
and text book reading during class time. We also moved on to the new lesson: 5 这是我的铅笔, on page 27. We practiced saying “what is this?”, ““What is that?””“This is xx.””That is xx”and “This/That
is (someone’s) XX. ”phrases in Chinese, through reading the text book, as well
as some games.
oDaily task: Read the text book page 27-28, with and without Pinyin,
twice a day
oWeekly task: for students who are capable, write the new characters:
是、什、么、书, a line for each character on the little yellow
booklet
This week was a review week. We reviewed all the characters and words we have learned so far. With the words we learned, the teacher asked the each student to go up to the board and create a word with the characters. For the older kids, it is asked that they they know how to write these charaters but for the younger ones, just recognizing then characters and what they mean would be enough. Please practice these words and characters and the ones that we have learned but is not on here.
One of our TA's, Hana, is applying to be a co-teacher. During 20 minutes of the beginning of the second class period, she taught the class for her interview. She taught the "School Song" to the students. Each student received a copy of the song and this song will be the song they perform at the Chinese School New Year's Show. There are also dance moves that come with the song that Hana also taught them. Please have them practice singing the song and dance moves. The students also learned about the vowels and consonants for PinYing. Please have them practice the PinYing we have learned so far. The ones they have learned on in the book (from chapter 1 to 4).
Also there is no class for the following two weeks. No class on 11/20 or 11/27 due to Thanksgiving break. Class resumes on 12/04. Please continue to practice your Chinese and we'll see you in two weeks!

M1 Class Homework 家庭作业11/13
There will be no class on 11/20 and 11/27.
We will meet again in class on 12/4. With such a long break (3 weeks) between
today and next class, let’s try to practice some Chinese characters and pinyin
recognition, watch Chinese cartoons on Youbute and sing learned Chinese songs
whenever you have time (at least twice a week) throughout these three
weeks.
oThe Character we’ve learned (reading only for younger students and
older students may try to practice writing with the correct stroke order) are:

In the begging of the class, the teacher review the four tones. (The four tones are really important to say it correctly). Also, we reviewed how important are the pinyin and Chinese character.
After, we started to review the chapter 4 from textbook. First, students reviewed the words and also try to learn how to write them: 人（rén；people), 大（dà；big), 太（tài；over), 儿（ér；child）,气（qì；gas), and 鸟（niǎo；bird）. Second, we reviewed the pinyin. Also, we learned some new pinyin. Teacher let one student came up and point a vowel or final consonant and other students tried to pronounce it.
We also watched some YouTube videos to help students pronounce pinyin better and understand more about Chinese characters .
This week homework will be same as last week; don't forget do your homework!!!
The teacher started off the class with reviewing the words we learned. Each students went up to the board and read the words they knew. Please review them at home because it is important to know those words.
We learned to read chapter 4 in the textbook today. To break things down, we drew pictures to represent what the passage is saying. This way, the students can understand the passage easier. The students do not need to know how to write the words yet, but please teach them how to say and pronounce the words correctly. Please read the textbook according to the homework.
Today at the end end of class we went over the PinYin we have learned so far (ones from chapters 1- 4). Please review them because next week we will go over them in class. See you all next week!
In the begging of the today's class, we reviewed（复习）the four vocabulary we learned last week from chapter 3: 再见、老师、中文、上課.
We also reviews the pinyin(拼音）we learned from last few weeks: d,n,h,x,b,l,m,k,sh,a,o,i,ao,e,ai,en
Today we learned few new consonants 声母: z(字zì: word), j(小鸡xiǎo jī: baby chicken), y(衣服yī fú:clothes). The new vowels we learned today: an(安 ān: peaceful), ei(诶: just a sound).
We played a game called look a friend找朋友. During the game, each of student need to pick two pinyin cards. And then find a friend to trade the card and make a word by the two cards. This game help students to practice put vowel and consonant together to make a word. After we we finished the game , we also read page 17 and page 19 from textbook to let students practice more.
In the end of the class, we played another game. We acted the chapter from textbook we learned from the last few weeks.

In the beginning of today's class, we reviewed the four characters we learned last week.( 中、文、白、上).
Also, we reviewed the four initial/consonants 声母（d, n,x,h) and four finals/vowels 韵母（a,o,i,ao). After, we started to learn new initials and finals. New initials are：b（radio 广播）l （looks like a stick 棍子）m （两个门洞）k （tadpole小蝌蚪）sh（ Lion 狮子）. New final are：e（goose 鹅）ai （love爱）en（press 摁）. We made the pinyin cards 拼音卡片 for practice how to make a word by using these vowels and finals.
Che Laoshi also gave examples for each initial and finals to help the students to conect the sond with Chinese characters/meaning. And we read page 10 on textbook to practice more.

Hi all! This week we learned the characters 上, 中, 文, 白. We also reviewed some characters we learned in the past weeks. Make sure you review them every week and write the characters in the right stroke order!
The teacher also passed out a writing book which has the correct format for writing Chinese characters. You can use that book to practice writing your characters and bring it to class because you will need it in class!
The teacher also passed out an assignment sheet with assignment that the students should do. If you complete all of them and the parent signs the paper, you will get a stamp! Remember to read our textbook!
At the end of the class, we had game time where we played the game "Little Detective". We used the new characters that we learned and also the character we have already learned, so review your characters.
In today's class , we first reviewed what we learned last week. This included the 8 Chinese characters: 大, 小, 云, 卫, 你, 好, 我, 叫. One of the homework for this week is to read lesson 1 from the textbook everyday and try to cover the Pinyin part while reading the characters.
Today we started to learned Pinyin (拼音). We learned 4 initials (first part of the pinyin): d (image the sound of the horse), n (there will has a vibrate on your nose when you trying to say this), h (喝水 "drinking water"), and x (cut the watermelon). Also, we learned four final consonants (second part of the pinyin): a (open your mouth wide when u triying to say this), o ( the sound of the roster makes early in the morning), i ( 衣服"clothes"), and ao (袄 " heavy coat"). And then the teacher putted some vowel and final consonant together to make some words: daˋ(big 大), niˇ( you 你), haˇo (good 好),and xiaˇo (small 小).
After we finished learning the pinyin, we started to learn Sheng Diao(声调). Sheng diao is the sound the Chinese characters make, crucial to learning Chinese. There has four Sheng Diao: --, ˊ, ˇ,ˋ. We practiced Pinyin and Sheng Diao on the textbook page 5 and page 6 in class.
At the last part of the class, we were singing the colors song we learned last week. Also, we read again the book we read on the first day of the class. The little panda meet other animals and introducing themselves.
*Homework: read lesson 1 from the textbook everyday and try to read both the character and Pinyin parts. Also, complete the practice book A page 1 -3. Next week we will start lesson 2 so it will be halpful if you can preview the text.

In class today we learned the characters 大 (big), 小 (small), 云 (cloud). The teacher gave them a practice sheet with the words on there and it would be awesome if they can practice writing the words at home.
We played a game called "little detective" in class today. In this game the teacher puts Chinese characters on the board that the students have already learned, and asks one students to be the detective and one to be the robber. The student that is the robber goes to the board and takes one of the characters off the board while the student that is the detective has their back to the board and their eyes closed. The student that is the detective then has to detect which character the robber took.
We read the first lesson of the textbook in class today. It is a simple story that introduces the characters that will appear throughout all the levels of the textbooks at Chinese school.
The teacher, during circle time taught the students the color song, using the names of the colors in Chinese and read them a book.
