Today, we spent our first period and the first part of the second period on practicing our Chinese New Year performance(上学歌), and we did rehearsal on the stage too.* Students need to practice more at home before our on-the-stage show on Sunday, the 29th.
We learned some new pinyin today: c(cì 刺thorn, sting, splinter)、 ch(chī 吃eat)、ie (yè 叶 Leaf)、üe(yuè月moon)、ui(shuǐ水water) 、in(jīn金gold)、ang(táng糖). We did the pinyin card likes what we did before so, students can understand the pinyin better.
Important Notice: Next week( January, 29, 2017) we don't have class because we have a New Year celebration 2-5pm at the Richard Brunelle Performance Theater, Davis Senior High School. All students should gather at the gate 1:30-1:40.

IMPORTANT: Next week, on
January 29th, instead of regular class, we will have a school-wide
New Year celebration, 2-5 pm, at the Richard Brunelle Performance Theater,
Davis Senior High School, 315 W 14th Street, Davis. Free tickets are eligible for Students and
teachers only; parents and other family friends are highly encouraged to
join us, at the cost of $5 per adult and $1 per kid. Tickets are available to
purchase today or at the gate. The event consists of performance put up by all
NewStar Chinese School classes and some outsider artists and performance groups.
With lively music, dance and other entertainment, we are extending our New Year
celebration to the larger community outside of our Chinese School, and wish
everyone Happiness, Health, and Prosperity in 2017, the Year of Red Chicken!
For Class M1, on
1/29, we will gather at the gate
1:30-1:40 pm and the students will be guided to our group seating area.
Parents’ help and assistance will be highly appreciated. Students dress code: girls: red dress or
school uniform (if you have any and prefer to wear); boys: white shirt on top
and black or dark color pants on the bottom (or school uniform if you prefer).
All boys and girls may wear light make-up and don’t forget to bring a regular (CLEAN) backpack to use as the
prop for our dance!
1/22 Class Homework: Listen, Read, and Record lesson 1-5.
One lesson per day, Monday - Friday.

In today's class, the teacher started the class by placing her stationaries in a different place in class. Afterward, students will be asked about to find a stationary:笔pen, 剪刀 scissor, 胶水 glue, 橡皮eraser, 书book.
We also started a new chapter6 (Remember during the break students need to review). The teacher use dialogue from ch6 practice it with students: the teacher randomly ask students about whether XXX(stationery)is this belong to you (student)? Also, the teacher plays a game that helps student practice chapter 6. Th teacher will randomly choose a word and she will trick the student by pointing a word and say the wrong name. The students also got a chance to do the same thing as what teacher did; one of the students will be a teacher and tried to trick other students.
In the second period of the class, we played a game called 找朋友 find a friend. The teacher gave each student two triangles(half word on there) and students will need to find a friend to puzzle it together to make a word.
We reviewed the pinyin we learned before after the game. We also read page30 on the textbook to practice more.

At the beginning of today's class, we review the chapter that was our homework for last week (pg27 in the textbook: 这是我的铅笔).The teacher randomly chose a person to read two lines and then just like a train; a new person read the next two lines. After everyone read the lines, teachers want all the people to get more practice. * Remember to read the five chapters that we learned before during the week
Today we also learned some new pinyin. We learned four new vowels 声母: p (pō shuǐ jié 泼水节; a festival to splash water), q (qì qiú 气球;balloon), zh (zhǐ 纸; paper), w (wū yún 乌云: dark clouds)
The new final consonants that we learned today: u (bù 布; fabric), ü (yú 鱼; fish). The teacher made a game that she read a pinyin and students should follow her, but sometimes the teacher will try to trick the students. Also, the students make more pinyin card ( remember to bring all the pinyin card that we made in the previous class to every class)
We played a game called whistle game that helps students to get more understand about the pinyin we learned.
* Four persons per group. The teacher gave a word to the first person in each of the group. And then they whistle that word to the next person; the last person will need to write down the pinyin of the word on the paper.
After the game, we read page 29 in the textbook to practice say the pinyin.
At the end of the class, we reviewed the 上学歌 We add some dialogue at the end of the song.

Welcome Back! This week the teacher and the students reviewed everything after the long break to make sure the students are familiar with the things that they've earned so far. We went over the words we've learned so far with a fun game of bingo. Teacher put words up on the board and it was the student's job to fill in their bingo sheet with the words. they the teacher mixed up the words and called them out for students to cross out and when they got 4 in a row, it would be a BINGO!
After we played bingo, we reviewed the PinYin we have learned so far. The PinYin that we've learned so far are located in the text book and we learn them corresponding to the chapters of the boo we lave learned. please review at home those chapters and their Pin Yin.
Then we learned the next chapter of the book. We read them out loud in the class together and the teacher we around asking each student to read it out loud. Please review at home this chapter and don't forget to finish the Homework. The homework was written on the sheet that the teacher passed out during class.
Near the end of class, we practiced the song and dance that we were taught before break. We, as a class, are going to perform this song at the Chinese New Year show that the New Star Chinese School holds every year. So practice this song and dance at home! See you next week!

Welcome back to school! Hope you all had a
great Thanksgiving holiday break! Today, we reviewed Chinese characters, pinyin
and text book reading during class time. We also moved on to the new lesson: 5 这是我的铅笔, on page 27. We practiced saying “what is this?”, ““What is that?””“This is xx.””That is xx”and “This/That
is (someone’s) XX. ”phrases in Chinese, through reading the text book, as well
as some games.
oDaily task: Read the text book page 27-28, with and without Pinyin,
twice a day
oWeekly task: for students who are capable, write the new characters:
是、什、么、书, a line for each character on the little yellow
booklet
