We learned the new characters for lesson 10 today. They are: 工、作、生、在。During the class time, we practiced their strock orders by playing the "Beat the Teacher" game. We also talked about their meanings and some common words that they make, such as: 工作、作业、学生、医生、在这里……
The students also practiced writing those four characters on a sheet. Due to the different ages of students in this class, writing remains a challenge for some younger students but should be encouraged for the older students. So please help your child practice this at home accordingly. Do not disencourage them when they can't do it or can't do it well. It is totally fine if they are not ready to master the writing skills yet. Listening, speaking and reading are the focus for now.
In the second class, we practiced listening and speaking skills and learned how to ask and talk about Daddy's and Mommy's "jobs." The teacher pointed out that Chinese vocabulary for jobs usually has one of the following endings: 师、家、员、生。The common ones we mentioned about were: 老师、律师、厨师、工程师、学生、医生、科学家、舞蹈家、作家、飞行员、职员、店员、管理人员、销售人员……
Due to the upcoming Spring Break, we'll not have Chinese class for the following two weeks. There are homework for you to do during thise three-week long interval. Please help your child to sing all the songs we've learned so far (most of them are up on this blog), to read the textbook lessons 1 to 10, and to understand and read the words listed on their homework sheet. See you on 4/9!
